Providing e-fulfilment services for enterprises
By Prasanna Raman, Business Computing, Computimes, NS, 29 Jan 2004

IN year 2000, David Wong decided that he would provide electronic logistics services, a novel service back then which would greatly reduce logistics costs to manufacturers, distributors, retailers, logistics providers and freight forwarders. And he set up a company called ShipandTrack, to do just that.

Now four years later, ShipandTrack, renamed SnT Global Sdn Bhd two years ago, to better reflect that it's a click and mortar company rather than a dotcom, has evolved from merely providing logistics services to a full range of e-fulfilment services.

According to Wong, the company’s business models have also evolved and that today they’re not only an application services provider (ASP) but also is an e-fulfilment business process outsourcing (BPO) solutions provider.

In simple terms, SnT offers technology for sale, namely the Hosted eLogistics Platform (HeLP), and e-fulfilment BPO services.

HeLP serves as information platform that supports multiple parties of a supply chain community to execute common logistics activities. It is a suite made up of six components – eHub, eTrax, eTMS, eFMS, eTC and eGLOMETS. Its customers include Singapore Airport Terminal Services and ECS in Singapore.

As for its BPO services customer, its biggest is NEC Infrontia.

SERVICES OFFERED
By adopting BPO, says Wong, companies can enjoy immediate advantages such as reduced inventory, tighter delivery schedules, lower transportation costs, less damage to goods transported, and increased efficiencies in the supply chain.

All these, he says, can be achieved through the six key areas of logistics, which are order fulfillment, transportation management, warehouse management, reverse logistics, contact center and financial settlement.

“Previously, we didn’t offer a full suite of services as we didn’t have the physical assets to provide our services extensively. However, over the past three years, we have manages to gain some assets through acquisition of a few brick and mortar companies. Our physical assets are not only here in the country but are also located in Singapore and Thailand. Soon, we will also acquire some assets in China as we expand our business there,” says Wong.

According to Wong, SnT has aggressive plans to move into China this year, not only because of the opportunities there but also because its customers are expanding into China. He expects SnT to extend its services to serve them in that country as well.

SnT’s customers are mainly manufacturers, distributors and logistics companies.

“We are very focused in the information and communications technology (ICT) and electronics industry as our services are developed for this specific industry with its specific needs,” Wong says.

“Our BPO business is a long-term relationship and not just merely a vendor-customer relationship that can end after one business transaction,” he adds.

Among the plans the company has, says Wong, is to take the company to Mesdaq listing. “The plan is being worked out in stages now and we hope by next year, we can get listed,” he says.
