SnT set to make mark in China’s logistics market
By Jason Tan, Computimes, NSTP, 13 Nov 2003

SnT Global Sdn Bhd is setting its sights on the US$5 billion (RM19 billion) logistics market in China, and its exponential growth of more than 50 per cent a year. Come first quarter next year, the company plans to open an office in Shanghai.

For now, SnT has tied up with Asiasoft (S) Pte Ltd, a Singaporean IT (information technology) solutions provider which also has affiliated offices in Malaysia and China.

Under the pact, Asiasoft will utilise its expertise and domestic knowledge in China to provide sales and marketing support for SnT’s Hosted e-Logistics Platform (HeLP) suite, says David Wong, group chief executive officer and director of SnT Global.

It is projected that the new alliance will bring US$3 million in revenues over the next three years.

The HeLP suite brings in logistics service providers, customers and suppliers in a supply chain, enabling them to communicate, exchange information and work together to achieve smoother supply chain management.

According to SnT Global’s chief operating officer Soon Koi Voon, these Internet-based modules can be deployed on an application service provider (ASP) model or “pay-per-use”, or companies can opt for the traditional client-server mode.

One of the modules is eHUB, a warehouse management system powered by its partner EXE technologies.

The backbone of the platform is Event Management Control (EMC), which has a level of intelligence programmed into it to track data along an extended supply chain.

The EMC is also able to monitor, alert and provide real-time solutions to issues occuring within the supply chain.
Every part along the supply chain needs to be managed well, says Soon.

As businesses begin switching to more efficient Internet-based models, supply chain integration is rapidly being transformed as more information is traded among the service providers, suppliers and customers.

In view of the high online data transactions, he assures that utmost importance is placed on ensuring data integrity and speeding up data transfer.

There is also emphasis on increasing the visibility of data to the right people at the right time.

Market researcher International Data Corp (IDC) estimates that the supply chain industry in Asia has a huge market worth of US$4.4 billion, with the logistics industry forecasted to grow at 42 per cent this year.
